From Mom to IRONMOM

It's never going to be the right time, and you are never going to have EXTRA time, especially as a mom, but we can MAKE time (believe it or not)!

Time: 6:30 pm
Location: Mind and Body Wellness Studio
Workout: NERVE WORKOUT

Thoughts: We tend to wait until something is really wrong to FIX it. But what if we could improve our performances by fine-tuning our bodies....Helping the signals get to the muscles around our body UNINTERUPTED!  It could probably mean the difference between a GOOD RACE and a GREAT race.

When I got to Marcelo's office, 2 of my teammates were there as well! Doing REGULAR visits for alignment/massage/therapy. I need to focus on doing some more PREVENTATIVE care. Especially now that I'm increasing the amount of hours I'm working out at week with #70.3Ironman Training.

Thanks SoleRunners and Mind& Body Wellness Studio for helping us with this part of training.

Time: 5:35 am
Location: Indoor Pool
Workout: 2150 m

So I did the workout about 4 hours ago, and I cant remember what it was....but it was something like this:
400WU
12x50
4x150
6x75
100 CD

Thoughts:
Yesterday at 5:30pm, while heading over to the iRUN Mondays workout,  I was planning to do the workout this morning on my own...by 8:30pm I had 5 friends joining me!
The first half of every workout seems to go by so SLOWWWW. And then once you are half way, something magically shits in your brain, and it feels so much more doable...like you are actually going to make it through the workout with all your LIMBS ATTACHED!

Thanks Coach Hibbit for guiding our workout.

Nice to get a two-a-day in. I was late to Brickell Run Club so I ran on my own...just me and my thoughts =)

Great Weekend in the Books: SWIM/BIKE/RUN

Sunday:

Napoleon Hill said: "A goal is a dream with a deadline" .
I say: "A goal is a dream
with some numbers attached to it!"
Thoughts:
The thought that combining this weekend's training and adding another 20 miles on the bike would  probably tuck a couple people back into bed or at the very least generate some thoughts of "DON'T do it".  However, it has the opposite effect on me and I'm sure a few others.  This weekend got me even more excited. I know I will finish...but the goal is more than just to finish...It's to go out there week in and week out and enjoy the process of becoming an IRONMOM, so that race day will serve as a celebration of the journey!

I started to fool around with some goal times. Though a little ambitious, I wrote them out on paper. Not to put pressure but to give my training some orientation, to give my rides some motivation, to keep me running towards that imaginary pacer I have in my head.
Picture
As it stands, I now have a race picked out, a goal to shoot for, and now I just need to figure out HOW i'm supposed to get there.

I've been running for twenty something years so, it soothes me in a way, that the run is the LAST PART of the race...and the swim, well it doesn't scare me too much....the BIKE, well that's the challenge. Getting the strength I need there will be the key to this training. From what I've been able to gather, it's just about getting the miles in. So looks like me and the streets of Miami, Homestead, Kendall, and Key Biscayne are going to become very well acquainted in the coming months!

I've got a lot to learn...so let the process begin!

"A journey of 70.3 miles begins with the decision to TRI". -IRONMAN
If any of you bikers are looking to upgrade to an even cooler TRI-BIKE,
Let me know... I'm in the market for one.

Pool Workout

Time: 6:30am
Location: Indoor Pool
Total: 2000m
Workout:
WM: 3x 200
10x100 (Alternate between sets of A: Kicking and B: Arms

A:25 Left Side Kick/ 25 Right Side Kick/ 25 Kick on Back/ 25 Freestyle
B: 100 only Arms
400 Relaxed Working on form

Thought:
There is something freeing about swimming and at the same time suffocating. As I was doing the kicking on my back, I had my eyes open and I could see the water coming over my face. It was beautiful and scary at the same time.
To keep my head out of the water, I extended my body, squeezed my head (right behind my ears) between my outstretched arms.

Time for all 3

Picture
Time: 8am
Location: South Miami
Workout:
Part 1:  2000m
5 x 200 swims. 1 min rest interval.
10x 100. Alternating kicking and arms only. 30 second rest interval.
Part 2:
1 Hour Cycling (indoors)
Part 3: ~10km
6.6 mile Run

Thoughts:
A little rain never hurt nobody....but tornadoes, and crazy wind and lighting can! When I woke up Saturday morning, already in my tri-suit (which I fell asleep in, cause I was so excited about the workout), it looked like a club out on my balcony. Lighting was beautifully warning of the crazy weather that was about to arrive. For a second I thought I would still get to ride, and that's when the downpour began with slanted rain that was almost deafening as it hit the balcony glass.

After waiting it out until about 7:30, I decided that i'd have to take to training indoors if I was going to get any type of workout in...my bed was calling me back in, so I made a run for the gym....2 1/2 hours later I was happy that my bed hadn't won this battle.

The Course Isn't Always Marked

4/14/2014

"The course isn’t always well marked; cones are moved, volunteers are unsure of instructions, markers may be too spaced apart or obscure, and moments of discouragement or lack of inspiration to create, achieve, and even run, are realities we all encounter but not ones we are doomed to live with.
So I had been in a training slump. I had been having trouble getting into a rhythm and even writing; Most of my article ideas seem to surface through my pores along with the run induced sweat. I was a couple days from deadline for RUN SOUTH FLORIDA Magazine, when it occurred to me. I NEED to find my inspiration!
Picture
"Theword INSPIRATION (IN-SPIRARE) literally means the ‘act of breathing in or inhaling’. Without Inspiration, divine guidance that enables us to look for the path we were on or a new path that has the potential to lead us to a better place, we feel lost. "

Where had my inspiration gone?

As I started writing, I realized that I needed to follow my own advise: " Dive into a NEW discipline, complimentary sport, or challenge yourself to tackle a longer distance."I have decided to do my first IronMan70.3 . We always think that another time will be a better time to train, but reality proves otherwise. The grass isn't always greener. We have to make NOW be a good time to train. With all there is to do, I will try and track my journey from Mom to IRONMOM here.  I am tracking my training more for me, than for anyone else. I need to keep myself accountable, I need to trick myself to staying on COURSE =).
Picture
Apparently i wasn't able to figure out where exactly my inspiration had gone, but I'm glad to say that I didn't wait for it to come back, I set out to find it.... and was surprised at how quickly our paths realigned. It's almost as if he was just playing hard to get. Deep down inside, he never wanted to leave my side to begin with.

Here's to new goals!
